Looking for a peaceful destination to enjoy the nature and fresh air!? This summer, since we are still busy working, we wanted to find a nice spot for relaxing during a long weekend or a short week trip. Often times camping is a good alternative when several beach spots are already sold out. Even for the inexperienced “I don’t like camping camper”, Un Lit au Pré is ideal! If it’s hard to believe, read on, and you will see…
At Un Lit au Pré, upon arrival, we strongly recommend taking the time to chat with the owners and discover a little bit more about their daily lives: taking care of animals, living on the farm, home life, where they come from, and how they began. This experience is very special and speaking with the owners starts the trip with a personal touch!
For our latest trip, we decided to visit the Domaine du Cloître Saint-Christophe especially because Miss L loves horses and the Frison horses are particularly magnificent! The owners, Savine et Pieter greeted us upon arrival and shared their joy and passion for their farm, their family, and also their amazing Frison horses. We felt at home and admire their “savoir-faire” and full of life and love spirit.
The Tents: The Domaine du Cloître Saint-Christophe is often in demand and one reason is because they have “Noble Tents”. These large luxury tents contain a warm water shower, a hamac for two people; a large sofa, a covered outdoor area with bbq, a toilet and a few toiletries as well as a small welcome gift. Even if Un Lit au Pré is luxury camping, we mustn’t forget that it still remains camping! Therefore, all heat is around the wood burning stove and the electricity is by daylight and candlelight. This is truly charming! We slept extremely well in the comfortable beds (bedding included) and the kids had the choice to sleep in the wooden tree house like bed or the bunk beds. We slept 6 people in our tent with no problem.
Daily Life: Each Un Lit au Près has their own general store with local food products including meat, fruits, vegetables, and other cooking basics including coffee, sugar, flour, etc. as well as household supplies (toilet paper, trash bags, etc.) and also local handmade products. Each morning, fresh bread and croissants are delivered upon order. At the Domaine du Cloître Saint-Christophe, the kids spent quite some time in the general store at the toy and book corner where one can borrow games and books during the stay. Some activities we enjoyed were riding on Savine and Pieter’s beautiful horse, taking a tour of the domaine, visiting the newborn baby horse, long walks in the meadows, roasting marshmallows, and also taking a few days trips such as visiting the local Goat Farm, the Chevrerie de Chaillon.
A few days in nature… peace and tranquility, relaxation, no screens… this truly felt like an ideal vacation.
Another Un Lit au Pré that we strongly recommend is the Farm de la Folivraie (organic farming!). We had the opportunity to milk the cows, garden in the greenhouse, feed the animals and truly live life like a farmer! Also this farm is located near Omaha Beach, the perfect beach to visit with the family. Overall, for first time or experienced campers, and especially for families, we highly recommend booking a stay at Un Lit au Pré. We will definitely be returning for more! Un Lit au Pré offers camping not only in France, but also in England, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United States.
