A glimpse into your day-to-day life

As a freelancer, my daily routine varies significantly. For instance, tomorrow I need to be on set by 6:45 AM for a shoot, after which I hope to find some time for exercise. The following day, since I won’t be shooting for a client, I plan to conduct a test shoot for my portfolio and work with a student enrolled in my Independent Study course at The School of Visual Arts in New York City.

The journey into photography and the conception of “Real Mother”

My passion for photography and art ignited during high school. I initially chose Art History as my major at Boston University, pushed by my parents to have a well-rounded education. However, after a year, I realized I was seeking a different path. At 19, I transferred to The School of Visual Arts, pursuing my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography.

The “Real Mother” project began when I became a stepmom to twins who were then 9 years old, and are now 19. Since 2001, I have been involved in editorial and commercial photography.

Future aspirations for the project

Originally, I envisioned this project as a monograph that would include interviews with the mothers alongside their photographs. I have applied for grants to revisit the mothers and document them with their children in the present day.

There are numerous possibilities for expanding this project. Incorporating a video segment is one option I’m exploring, as well as broadening the subject matter to encompass a wider range of family dynamics.

Inspiration and motivation

My inspiration comes from countless sources, including other art and various experiences. The “Real Mother” project stemmed from my desire to better understand parenting and the nuances of motherhood. Typically, my photography is driven by an urge to grasp a specific concept or experience.
