Meet Heidi Schaefer
Heidi Schaefer, a talented designer originally from Sweden and now based in Berlin, is the creative mind behind Nesta’s Nest. Her handcrafted baby baskets are meticulously designed and made with high-quality standards, perfect for infants from birth to 9 months of age. The inspiration for these baskets came from her own experience as a mother, as her son was the first to try out Nesta’s Nest. This cozy and multifunctional baby bed doubles as a storage solution for books and toys, demonstrating both practicality and design excellence. We had the pleasure of meeting this remarkable mom and had the opportunity to ask her some personal questions about her journey and the products she creates for Nesta’s Nest.
Describe your typical day.
Since adopting a dog, my mornings now begin with a lovely walk in the woods after I drop Nesta off at school. My work takes place in my home studio, which allows my professional and personal life to blend more seamlessly compared to the traditional office routine I once had. I have the flexibility to enjoy a coffee with a friend while on my way to meet suppliers and customers.
How did you begin designing Nesta’s Nest?
The journey started from a personal need for a safe place for my upcoming baby and a desire to create something meaningful. I envisioned the materials I wanted to use and was committed to making it as natural and safe as possible.
What motivates or inspires you?
Life itself inspires me in myriad ways. When faced with challenges, it drives me to overcome and rise above. In times of ease, it encourages me to savor those moments and strive for improvement. Additionally, I find inspiration in people – the unique paths everyone takes to tackle life’s challenges, live fully, and find joy is truly captivating to me.
How do you see Nesta’s Nest in 10 years?
In a decade, I envision Nesta’s Nest as a thriving business with satisfied customers and committed employees. The nests will still be handcrafted with the utmost care, and we’ll offer a wider range of accompanying accessories.
Can you recommend any nice spots for Moms or women in Berlin?
Café Einstein on Kurfürstenstraße is a fantastic spot for enjoying coffee and cake with a friend.
Can you recommend any nice spots for kids in Berlin?
Kolle 37 is a wonderful playground designed for children, where adults are not permitted. Trained staff members teach various skills like archery, woodworking, and pottery, with a cozy log fire always burning nearby, making it a hidden gem in Berlin.
Your essentials or must-haves (beauty, objects, keepsakes, food, etc.)?
My essentials include Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream, a good pair of tweezers, and of course, chocolate.
