Get ready for Halloween with a simple skeleton costume!
As Halloween approaches, it’s time to finalize those last-minute costume ideas. This festive occasion is the perfect excuse for both kids and adults to dress up, go trick-or-treating, and enjoy fun moments with friends and family.
Haven’t found your costume yet?
If you’re still searching for the ideal outfit for October 31st, here’s a straightforward DIY project for creating an adorable yet spooky skeleton costume suitable for all ages.
Materials needed:
- Newspaper
- A round latex balloon (medium or large)
- A large bowl
- 1-2 cups of flour
- 2-4 cups of water
- A fork or a hand-held egg beater
- White and black acrylic paint
- Glow-in-the-dark duct tape or white duct tape
- Scissors
- Black clothing (leggings or jogging pants + a long sleeve shirt or turtleneck)
Step-by-step instructions:
Step 1:
In a large bowl, combine one cup of flour with two cups of water and mix thoroughly. It’s okay if the mixture retains some lumps.
Step 2:
Cut several strips of newspaper, about 4 cm wide and 15 cm long. Quickly dip each strip into the flour and water mixture.
Step 3:
Inflate the balloon to its maximum size and secure it by tying a knot.
Step 4:
Now, apply the newspaper strips around the balloon, leaving approximately a 20 cm area around the knot free. This space is essential for removing the balloon once the newspaper has dried and also for fitting the mask over the head. Apply two layers of strips, allowing the mask to dry for 24 hours. Repeat this layering process one or two more times, ensuring each layer dries sufficiently.
Step 5:
After the balloon has dried, gently pop it to remove it. Use scissors to make three holes: two for the eyes and one for the nose, ensuring visibility and airflow!
Step 6:
You now have the skeleton mask base ready for painting! Get creative with the design, and let the kids paint their own masks if they’d like. Once painted, allow the mask to dry overnight.
Step 7:
Let’s add the finishing touch to the skeleton outfit! Cut out bone shapes from the duct tape and stick them onto the front and back of your clothing. Be imaginative! Using glow-in-the-dark duct tape enhances visibility during Halloween night!
Have a spooktacular Halloween!
