Diy fringe sweater
Recently, I’ve been on the hunt for that perfect winter sweater that is both warm and comfortable, without causing any itching. While exploring local flea markets and vintage shops, I have discovered some fantastic options at reasonable prices, but these places often lack offerings for children. For my kids, I usually browse Cyrillus for cozy wool sweaters and Monoprix for their affordable cashmere options. Currently, I’m craving something a bit more unique. Thus, I decided to personalize my own sweater. Using a crochet hook and a ball of yarn, I transformed a simple H&M ivory-colored sweater into something special. In just a short amount of time, I created a unique piece that my daughter adores. This DIY project is simple enough to involve your children, and the customization possibilities are limitless. I’m thrilled with how it turned out!
What you will need:
- A sweater (preferably second hand or from a flea market!)
- A pair of scissors
- A ball of yarn
- A crochet hook
Step 1
Start by determining how you want to customize your sweater. Let your creativity flow and enjoy the process! There are no strict rules, and you can also add pom-poms if you like.
Step 2
Wrap the yarn around your fingers to create equal-sized fringe. I cut my strings to approximately 20 cm for the front and 5 cm for the shoulders.
Step 3
Insert your crochet hook through a stitch in the sweater. Take a piece of the cut string, fold it in half, and place it around your hook. Pull this folded string through the stitch in your sweater. A loop will form once it’s pulled partway through. Use your fingers or crochet hook to draw the two ends of the string through this loop. Repeat this process with all remaining strings.
After a few minutes, you will have a lovely sweater ready to wear, and I can assure you that no one else will have one quite like it! 😉
