Get ready for Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. To celebrate February 14th, I have decided to craft an adorable handmade flip book that kids can gift to their parents. 😉 When creating a DIY flip book, you have the option to make a card, a mini book, or just a few decorative pages. This delightful animated Valentine’s Day project is sure to bring joy to parents, children, and other family members alike.
Materials you will need:
- Letter size or A4 size white paper
- Digital camera or smartphone to capture photos of your child
- A printer
- Small heart stickers (available at Target, Paper Source, or My Little Day)
- Washi rice paper tape (optional)
- Markers (optional)
- Scissors (optional)
- A stapler (optional)
Note: If small heart stickers are hard to find, you can cut out heart shapes from colored paper, or use a cute heart-shaped hole punch. If you’re short on time, your child can also simply doodle little hearts and kisses with a colorful marker.
Instructions
Step 1
Capture approximately 8 or more photos of your child using a digital camera or smartphone. Ensure your child holds still and changes only their facial expressions.
Step 2
Print the photos on letter-size paper. Make sure the images are positioned at the bottom right of each page. If this proves to be too complex, you can print the photos separately, cut them out, and then glue them to the bottom right corner of each page.
Step 3
Adhere heart stickers around the face of each photo. You can leave the first photo page without a sticker, add one to the second, two to the third, and so forth, depending on your preference. Gradually, you will create an animated effect with the heart stickers surrounding your child’s photos. Even if the sizes of the hearts vary, the overall design will turn out charming. Feel free to unleash your creativity with the hearts!
If you are happy with your pages, you can keep them as they are and present them as a set of stationery. Use a cute heart-shaped paper clip to bind the pages, and your child can personalize the first page with a sweet message. Your gift is ready for presentation!
Step 4 (optional)
If you’d like to make a small booklet, start by trimming the pages to your preferred size, ensuring that you leave enough space on the left edge to keep the images visible when flipping through them.
Step 5 (optional)
Staple the pages together at the top left and bottom left corners, then cover the stapled edge with decorative washi tape. I used the themed Mathilde Cabanes Bisous washi tape for mine.
Now flip through your pages and enjoy the fun of your handcrafted animation. This makes for a perfect gift on a wonderfully “love”ly day. Happy Valentine’s Day!
