Espèces en voie d'illumination

Winter in Paris With Kids

We love starting the new year with some good resolutions and an extra open optimistic mind. Ready to attack going back to school and also back to work, we are inspired by the beauty of Paris and we want to enjoy this great city. Here are some inspirations and ideas to enjoy the winter season in Paris!

1. Festival de Lumières au Jardin des Plantes : Espèces en voie d’illumination – When the sun goes down (between 6PM and 11PM to be precise), you can enjoy a night time stroll and observe the extinct or threatened species as gigantic lit up structures. Attention: you have until January 15th to attend this marvellous festival.

2. « Poison », Au Palais de la Découverte – Do you like snakes, spiders or scorpions? Maybe not, but your children will surely be fascinated by this exhibition! There are over 30 dangerous species in the world to discover at this majestic Paris Scientific Cultural Center.

3. La galette de roi

– The traditional galette de roi, or French king’s cake, lasts throughout the entire month of January! It’s quite normal to eat this rich and delicious frangipane cake at least 3 or 4 times during the month! I have always wanted to taste Sebastien Gaudard’s traditional cake of the Kings, it’s a little expensive, but here, I found the recipe. 😉

4. Kapla Construction Workshops are open Wednesdays and Saturdays for children 4 years old and up. Of course, it is possible to build kapla at home, but in a group and with an adult guide, the construction possibilities are much more fascinating. The workshop lasts an hour and a half. This is just enough time for mom to leave her child and indulge in the ongoing sales!;)

5. Hot Chocolate – Perhaps, it’s a bit cliché, but drinking a hot chocolate at Angelina or Café Le Nemours with your child is always an excellent plan. These two cafes are located next to the famous Deux Plateaux (aka Colonnes de Buren) monument. After warming up in a café, children can have fun and run around in this modern and fantastic labyrinth.

6. Les Etoiles du Cirque de Pékin / Le Roi des Singes – Nothing better than going to the circus with the kids! If you have not heard of this circus yet, you’ll definitely want to go! You have until January 20th to attend the Monkey King show!

7. Exposition Comédies musicales Pour vous donner envie d’y aller – This exhibition is an invitation to discover the history of a cinematographic genre that has marked several generations. It is also an opportunity for children to discover dance, singing and cinema. Children who tend to be a little bit restless, can also enjoy a small part of the exhibition in which they can follow Fabien Ruiz, as he teaches you to tap dance.
