Difficult to escape this summer without the urge to make our very own friendship bracelets! After CrazLooms, embroidery string bracelets are also back! We love Hipanema‘s cool bracelets and we also want our very own special DIY bracelets for ourselves. After the simple yet classic friendship bracelets, we wanted to create a slightly more sophisticated bracelet… with hearts!
What you will need:
– Embroidery thread (2 different colors)
– Clip & hardcover book or rigid cardboard / safety pin
To ease making friendship bracelets for kids, we recommend cutting a piece of stiff cardboard to keep the bracelet base in place and each stitch more organized on the bottom. This step is optional, we can also use a safety pin to hold the bracelet in place during its creation.
Now we are ready to create the hearts … We take the second string on the left (red) and this time we knot on the black string towards the left (always double knots!). With the second string on the left (black) we double knot on two consecutive strings. Then we do the same on the right side. When two black strings arrive in the middle we double knot them together. Here is the top part of the heart.
We continue the same stitches on the next row. We take the second string on the left (black) and this time around we knot twice on the red string to the left. With the second string on the left (red) we double knot on two consecutive strings. Then we do the same on the right side. When both red strings arrive in the middle we double knot the two red strings. Here is the top of the heart! Now repeat the 4 rows from the beginning starting again with the chevron V stitch! With a little patience, after a few minutes you will have a gorgeous heart friendship bracelet that’s relatively easy to make. Before you know it you’ll be able to make these heart bracelets without even following the images!
